For the big prize, it is $12,000, which is the maximum you can give a person without either incurring gift tax consequences. The old number was 10k, which I doubt would be refused either. Then too, some places have policies that prohibit this, so catch them when they are leaving for lunch or home.
I’m sorry, maybe I am just an ******, but why the hell would you even tip them? All they did was punch a few numbers into a register, it’s not like they are your dealer at a poker table. They are doing their job which takes all of 5 seconds… sorry but that guy isn’t going to even be remembered by me, let alone tipped. Course, like I said maybe I am just an ******.
ylime has a good point asking how much the win was; but his suggestion as to how much to tip is WAY off, I think.
Really, though…how do we know what kind of “win” you’re talking about? Did you win 20 bucks on a scratch-off ticket? Certainly you wouldn’t tip then. Even a 500-dollar win would not be enough for a tip in my opinion. If you did tip on 500, I’d make it like 5 bucks at the most.
If I won anything from 1,000 to 10,000, I think I’d give them a 20.
From 10,000 – 100,000, 50-dollars.
Anything over 100-grand, and I’d give them a hundred dollar bill.
They aren’t like dealers at a casino. These people are business owners, or at worst – regular cashiers. Either way, they are making their money by showing up for work, not from tips of any sort.
A dealer at a casino would not survive if it weren’t for tips.
how big’s ur win like?
if it’s like ten over thousand, 800 to a thousand would be proper.
if 5K, maybe a hundred or 150?
