Craig has not released his NCAA power rankings yet this year as he likes to wait until after the bowl season is finished before he changes focus to college basketball. This season has seen the regular suspects near the top of the rankings. There have been some big upsets knocking off some huge favorites. If you are knew to reading Craig’s power rankings this is one of Craig’s tools he uses in handicapping sports contest and picking winners against the spread. Always keep in mind that this is just one of the many tools he uses, so use wisely to help with your own winners. 1. North Carolina- Unlike the polls Craig does not over react to one loss they are still the best team and it is not close! Deepest team we have seen in recent years. 2. Pittsburgh- The last 5 years have seen a power house develop at Pitt and Coach Jamie Dixon might have his best team yet. Point Guard Fields is not the best player but is the best leader in the country. 3. They are the biggest team at every position and are great athletes they will give UNC and Duke all they can handle!6. Texas- They lose a lottery pick every year but just reload and win. Very tough hard nosed team that have already beat two ranked teams. 7. Oklahoma- Hard to figure out how to stop the best player in the country Blake Griffin. Pick your poison let Griffin beat you on the block or double team him and let there good shooting guards knock down threes. 8. Georgetown- Off back to back losses Craig might this young GMEN even more. Great heart shown by there young talented players and they will keep getting better as this season progresses. 9. Michigan St- Only big ten that has any chance of making noise in the NCAA tournament national title game. Sophmore point guard don’t usually lead teams but Lucas is without a doubt there best player and leader. 10. Notre Dame- Player of the year candidate Luke Haringody has come back even better this year and ready to lead this team to BIG EAST and National Title hopes. Don’t fall asleep on this teams as 5 seniors have all the experience. Many of you will probably look at these rankings and compare them to the current top 25. They are a ton different because Craig does not penalize a recent loss any more than one a month ago. Too many people look at recent success only and ignore the whole body of work. The Phoenix Suns came to the top of NBA Power Rankings this week by playing strong on road including handling the Celtics their first loss the season on Friday. Five of Suns’ seven games have been on the road in their remarkable 6-1 season opening, who made Boston look like a bad defensive team. The Celtics were one place down to second with a 7-1 record. Playing eight games in 12 days. Tired legs affected the defense and the three-point shooting. The Lakers were one place up to third with Kobe Bryant leading the league in scoring again. Lakers are surviving without Pau Gasol, needing overtimes to win in Oklahoma and Houston this week. The heat also climbed one place up, joining the Nuggets on the list of teams we didn’t think could have a better season than they did last year. But they’ve got a top-five defense and Dwyane Wade hasn’t had to carry as big of a load. With half the league looking pretty good and half the League looking pretty bad here’s your NBA Power Rankings: 1. Los Angeles Lakers (4) – Kobe is giving me flashbacks of 2005-06 but I snap out of it when the 40 point game ends in a victory. 2. Boston Celtics (1) – If you want to stay in the top spot you can’t drop your only home game against your only legitimate opponent in the week. 3. Orlando Magic (3) – Blowout in OKC is a head-scratcher, if “the deepest team in the NBA” can’t play better a few people short when the Cavs visit on Wednesday they will be sure to drop–win over the Suns is keeping them afloat. 4. Phoenix Suns (12) – 3-1 with one game left on Eastern Conference road trip, team couldn’t have asked for anything more and they couldn’t be shooting any better from deep. 5. Miami Heat (9) – Quentin Richardson is in the best shape of his life and he is playing great D in addition to outstanding three point shooting—when will be the first game Wade doesn’t lead the team in scoring? 6. Denver Nuggets (2) – Back-to-back road losses hurt, this team is very happy to bring J. R. Smith back but they might be having fears about the Friday the 13th meeting with the Lakers. 7. Dallas Mavericks (7) – The team went 2-1 against three quality opponents, Dirk is in the top five for MVP voting at this point in the season. 8. Atlanta Hawks (8) – Small ball works, the Hawks have done a great job of integrating Crawford in the lineup and Josh Smith realized how difficult he can be to guard in the post. 9. Cleveland Cavaliers (6) – After a four day break, the Cavs will face Orlando and Miami back-to-back, right now splitting would be considered a victory. 10. Houston Rockets (13) – Taking the Lakers to OT is very impressive, Houston is the junkyard dog of the NBA and nobody is excited to face them. 11. Portland Trail Blazers (10) – Win over the Spurs was important for moral, Portland is in a great position to run-off four road wins before entering Atlanta. 12. San Antonio Spurs (5) – Will have to beat Houston this week if they want to get back in the top 10, I understand Pop doesn’t want to wear his guys out but he’s not giving his stars enough PT to win. 13. Toronto Raptors (15) – The Bosh-Bargnani combo is a difficult guard for almost any team in the League, and that’s before you have to worry about the size of Turkoglu. 14. Chicago Bulls (16) – A strong week has the Chi at the top of their division, Tyrus Thomas is out for a while but Luol Deng is playing the best basketball of his life. 15. Oklahoma City Thunder (17) – Beating the teams they should is a good start, beating the Magic at home goes a long way, Durant, Westbrook, and Co. can go 3-1 over the next week. 16. Utah Jazz (14) – Sure they beat the Spurs but they lost to Dallas and now Sacramento, have fun on your road trip. 17. Detroit Pistons (21) – Beating Orlando and Philly in the same week earns them some respect, are the injuries to Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince real? 18. Philadelphia 76ers (18) – They haven’t beaten a team who’s better than them yet, in fact, they almost lost to the Nets. 19. New Orleans Hornets (19) – Beating Dallas was a nice sign of life but their aren’t many easy wins on the horizon. 20. Charlotte Bobcats (24) – Raja Bell’s return sparked a few needed wins, this team is twice as good at home as they are on the road. 21. Indiana Pacers (22) – After the next two weeks this team should be sitting above . 500, they aren’t ready for the playoffs but they are better than people think. 22. Los Angeles Clippers (23) – Three-game streak has Chris Kaman looking like an All-Star, but don’t be fooled they were playing Minnesota, Golden State, and Memphis. 23. Milwaukee Bucks (20) – Brandon Jennings showed New York the mistake they made when they drafted Jordan Hill over him. 24. Washington Wizards (11) – A four-loss week hurts, Gilbert is scoring but he isn’t taking over like he did before the injury. 25. Sacramento Kings (27) – Down goes Kevin Martin (surprise, surprise) and Tyreke Evans is ready to battle Jennings for the ROY, 55 points in two games is a good start. 26. Golden State Warriors (25) – How long till Don Nelson starts going crazy with his roster?  If Morrow isn’t starting by the end of November I’m starting a petition. 27. Memphis Grizzlies (28) – Saying goodbye to A. I. could be best for the team, now if they could only find a way to chase off Z-RO. 28. It was Isaiah Thomas’ first game as head coach for Florida International University, but the former pro’s debut game wasn’t all celebration and good feeling. FIU was torn apart by the defending national champion, the University of North Carolina, in a very one-sided 88-72 game Monday night. The event took place at the 2K Sports Classic at Chapel Hill, North Carolina. In the end, North Carolina was just too big for Florida, whose lack of defense was key for the defeat. Thomas, who had entered the game with high energy and respect for his new team, couldn’t have imagined that playing against UNC would be so difficult. The UNC team demonstrated its solidity and skill against FIU, despite the absence of last season’s big players. North Carolina’s three most talented members – Tyler Hansbrough and fellows Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington – became first draft picks in the NBA, but the team proved that it still had a deep reservoir of talented players. The UNC is doing just fine without its stars; in fact, the players may still have a shot at this year’s title. The most experience players on the team are Deon Thompson and Marcus Ginyard. Ginyard has been with the team for five years, but spent most of last season sidelined with a foot injury. Regardless, Ginyard proved himself a strong player, and his knowledge of the game may help his team in the upcoming matches. This year, Thomson is trying to return as the top scorer of the season, maintaining his record from last year. And with 20 points scored on Monday, he is well on his way – he helped the Tar Heels to a 1-0 lead, with 7 of 11 shots from the field and took 10 rebounds. Ed Davis also added 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots, while Ginyard added 12 points. The sophomore of the team, Larry Drew II, added 7 points, 6 assists, and 2 turnovers in his 21 minutes of play. There were moments when North Carolina’s players didn’t seem as balanced as they used to be, but coach Roy Williams was not concerned; the season is just beginning, and only time will tell what system works best. “For the most part, I thought we were active. We were trying hard,” Williams said. “We just weren’t very sharp. But it’s what you should expect this time of year. ” Thomas, on the other hand, was pleased with his team, despite the performance. The retired champion was hired to give a breath of fresh air to the FIU basketball program. The program is coming out of nine consecutive losing seasons. Thomas’ first coaching experience also comes at a difficult time in his personal life: his mother underwent open-heart surgery on the day of the game. She was in his thoughts. “My mom raised me to fight, and she told me she doesn’t want to die,” Thomas said. “She’s fighting to live, and she told me to go to work and fight for our team. ” And hopefully, for FIU fans, fight he will. Chuck Daly, Isiah Thomas, and Bill Laimbeer have been some of the most prominent players for the Pistons.

The Detroit Pistons was founded by Fred Zollner in 1940. It was then known as the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons. In 1941, the Pistons joined the National Basketball League. NFL football seems to have the longest season of all the sports. How can this be? It is because in football, there is something going on all year long! The news consistently reports about the NFL and its coaches, teams and players. Now, you can even watch replays of previous games from the current and past seasons on the television since the NFL has its own network channel that broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Not to mention that with the limelight shining so brightly on these well trained athletes, it doesn’t matter what they do, right or wrong, on or off the field, we are going to hear about it. . . no matter what time of year it is. When the Super Bowl has been played and all is said and done, it doesn’t end there. For a while, there is steady talk about the freshly ended season, its highlights and mishaps, it teams and players, what was and what could have been. Without skipping a step, the new season is already beginning. It would be a travesty for a true fan to go into the next season uninformed and out of the NFL informational loop. So, as the months get colder and there is less talk about the game itself, we listen for the rumors, like whispers in the air. Our curiosity is sparked and we want to know their outcome. Some of will affect our favorite teams in the upcoming season. Whew, we made it through winter on breadcrumbs, the tasty bits of information us fans crave to get us through the long cold months. Heading into spring the whispers start getting louder and our anticipation rises as we wait to see which rumors will become a reality and which won’t, but we won’t have to wait long. Summer comes and the chatter goes wild. Who is going to come out of retirement? Who is going to sign with whom? Whose injuries will have healed enough to play and whose won’t. Who are the up and coming players that will start the new season? As our questions are starting to be answered, our teams are taking shape and working hard on the practice fields. Then Wham, it is fall. This is it! This is what we have been waiting for all year. It’s time to kickoff the new season. Time for each player to bring it. Time to put forth all the energy, muscle and drive they can muster as they go head to head in a battle against their opposition. All 32 teams now fight to make it into the playoffs. Only the top two teams play in the event of the year, the Super Bowl game. The year ends after the big game and without interruption, it starts all over again. This means that for us football fans, there is always something going on to entertain our interest in the sport. This being said, it only makes sense that as a dedicated fan, we show our support all year long by wearing our favorite NFL team and player’s jerseys, apparel and other gear. Our cars are adorned with decals, floor mats, and license plate covers, while we decorate our homes with mugs, throws, rugs, bedding, and clocks. If you drive by a fans yard, you can see team flags, mail boxes, BBQ covers, etc. There is even NFL jewelry, watches, socks, golf gear, luggage and much more. Hasheem Thabeet and Jeff Adrien of the Huskies threw their arms into the air and gave a big smile to the gathered fans during the final few moments of the game on Saturday. This gesture was meant to tell the Irish fans that the game belonged to them and there was no hope for the Irish team. The Huskies who were at 18-1, 71 forced the Notre Dame team who were 12-6, 3-4 to get their lowest season score so far of just a 33 % shooting. They also made use of a 13-1 run to turn the game in their favor. Adrien shot his career high of 19 rebounds and also scored 12 points. Hasheem Thabeet scored 9 points as well as 11 rebounds and another 5 blocks. However, this wasn’t what made Thabeet the match-winner for his team. His superb blocking of the lane and tactics for making the rival team change their shots were the main reason that Notre Dame could not set a record in Saturday’s college basketball results. A. J. Price of the Huskies, who was able to score a precious 13 points against the Irish basketball team, said that the reason why his team defeated their rivals was because they “did everything (Huskies) wanted to” and left no trick from defense to rebounds and stops to make sure their team secured a win. It isn’t every day fans see really great players miss shots but Thabeet forced them to make errors from real close range which made all the difference for the Huskies. Notre Dame’s star player Kyle McAlarney could not score off 15 consecutive shots despite getting three initial 3 pointers without making any errors. His final score was a disappointing 9 points. Another Irish player, Luke Harangoy, was also unable to deliver for his team. He was only 10-of-23 from the field and finished off with 24 points. Harangoy has been in good form with this being the 11th consecutive game that he has scored a minimum of 20 points. As for the other Irish starters, they only had a shooting average of 21 % and could add 22 points. This was a game the Irish would like to forget soon as this was a consecutive 3 straight in a period of 3 years and their first defeat in 3 years on home turf.
