Nascar Nation – Have Your 2 Favorite Drivers Ever Ba……?

NASCAR NATION – Have your 2 favorite drivers ever battled to win a NASCAR Sprint Cup race in the closing laps?
My only time I remember my two were Jeff Gordon and Bobby Labonte battling in Atlanta 2003 with 9 to go til the finish – Labonte won by I think a car length

If Reutimann and Kahne ever battled it out for a win, I would cry I was so excited. Even if Allmendinger was thrown in, I would be hysterical.

  • AJ W says:

Yes. Carl Edwards and Mark Martin battled for the win at I think both Texas and Atlanta in 2005, at the end of the season. Carl won both, and I think Mark finished 2nd either both times, or finished 3rd in one.

if you like watching Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart duke it out like they did a couple of years ago, wait until the chase this season!
And throw in Carl Edwards and a couple of Busch Brothers!

  • Rocketma says:

Tony Stewart and Ryan Newman battled it out last year at the Daytona 500. Newman (and Kurt Busch as well) passed Tony on the final lap with Newman taking the win and Tony falling to 3rd.

Yeah, thats how I became a fan of Jamie McMurray actually; I figured if he could beat my favorite Bobby LaBonte then he could be my other favorite.
It was at Lowes Motor Speedway in 2002.

  • #9 Dodge Fan says:

It WOULD have happened at Lowes this year if the rain hadn’t came. The #9 and the #18 were the two best cars in the field, no doubt about it. But other than that I can’t remember.

  • Aaliyah president of Raganation says:

My two favorite drivers are Carl Edwards and David Ragan
So, nope the closest they ever came was last august in Michigan and David ended up like 3rd.

  • Kahne Girl 4Life says:

Kinda sorta at this year’s Coca-Cola 600. Kasey and Kyle were battling for first when the caution came out. Although since they pitted neither won, those were the last competitive laps of that race.

  • Ford Fanatic says:

Yeah absolutely. Matt Kenseth and Jamie McMurray battled for the win at Dover a few years ago( I forget exactly what year). Matt won the race. I know it was the spring race.
    Good question!

  • mbl says:

Not on the track but Edwards did come after Kenseth after the race at Martinsville. Edwards is no longer my 2nd favorite driver.

  • Awesome Bill fan says:

I can’t remember Bill and Rusty battling for the lead in the closing laps. I’m pretty sure they had battles like that though back in the 80s and 90s.

  • Martin M says:

Yes the 2nd Richmond 2008 and the 1st 2009 Dover race between Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart.

  • Biner says:

No. Sorry but in my opinion there is no such thing as two favorite driver’s. It’s my favorite against 42 other driver’s.

  • Ammie 24 says:

last year at Martinsville, it was Jimmie and Jeff battling and it was great clean racing!

  • Monkeys! says:

I don’t think Denny and Kyle ever battled for a win in Cup, I know they have a few times in Nationwide.

  • rowdynat says:

That would require me to have two favorite drivers, and “there can only be one!”

  • BIGGEST CARL EDWARDS FAN #99 says:

Last Year at the Dover race Greg Biffle, Matt Kenseth, and Carl Edwards were fightin for first!!
