Do College Hockey Players Prefer Wire Cages Or Is It Required?
I see a lot of college hockey players with wire cages on their helmets. I know the leagues usually require full facial protection but do they prefer the wire cage over the shield cage? Why?

All ice hockey players, from the minor level upwards including college and university, are required to wear a face mask on their helmets. Masks can be purchased as part of the helmet or separately. There are three kinds of masks wire cage, face shield and combination. There are also neck protectors on the market to give you added protection.
For safety obviously.
The college I tried out at (Universite du Quebec a Trois Rivieres) .. seem to remember we had a choice of wire cage or combo (half-shield/half-wire) but you absolutely had to wear one.
